Poroshenko: ATO Forces' Main Task Is To Cut Separatists' Supply Lines For Mercenaries And Weapons

(Ukrainian News, Oleh Panfilovych, 08/18/2014) President Petro Poroshenko believes that the main task of the forces participating in the government's "anti-terrorist operation" (ATO) against separatists is to cut the supply lines via which separatists receive mercenaries and weapons.

The presidential press service announced this in a statement.

"The Head of State stressed that the task today is to cut off the lines via which terrorists are supplied with mercenaries, new weapons, and ammunition because they continue to arrive through the uncontrolled border areas. According to the President, the current tactic is to 'cut the territories controlled by terrorists into zones, tighten the ring, and prevent opportunities for supply of arms and ammunition,'" the statement said.

At a meeting with the heads of law enforcement agencies, Poroshenko proposed discussing a tactic that is capable of reducing damage and avoiding risk to people, and destruction of the industrial facilities in the Donbas in order to minimize the reconstruction work that will need to be performed later in order to restore normal life in these cities.
