Ukraine and USA agree on postponement of public debt payments

Ukraine and the USA agreed on the postponement of public debt payments.

This is stated in the notification of the Ministry of Finance, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

During the meeting of the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhii Marchenko and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the USA to Ukraine Bridget Brink, a bilateral Agreement on the postponement of payments on the national debt was signed.

The conclusion of the said Agreement was provided for by the Memorandum of Understanding on the suspension of public debt payments with a group of official creditors of Ukraine from the G7 countries and the Paris Club.

"Signing this Agreement will reduce the debt burden on the state budget and direct the funds that were supposed to be paid for the repayment and servicing of debt obligations to the needs of the social and humanitarian spheres. We are grateful to our partners for their significant contribution to the support of macro-financial stability and economic growth of Ukraine in the conditions of war," emphasized the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhii Marchenko.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the total state (direct and guaranteed) debt of Ukraine for 2023 increased by 30.4% or USD 33.87 billion to a record-breaking USD 145.32 billion.

In 2022, the total national debt increased by USD 13.39 billion, or 13.66%, to USD 111.34 billion.

In 2021, the national debt increased by 8.52%, or by USD 7.69 billion, to USD 97.95 billion.

In 2020, the total national debt increased by 6.9%, from USD 84.4 billion to USD 90.3 billion.
