Humanitarian Committee recommends that Rada adopt bill on ban of UOC (MP) in second reading
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy recommends that parliament adopt in the second reading a bill banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The press service of the Committee announced this, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"The Committee recommended that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopt bill No. 8371 in the second reading and as a whole," the message says.
More than 1,200 amendments were submitted to the corresponding bill.
The draft law proposes that the activities of religious organizations that are affiliated with the centers of influence of a religious organization (association), the governing center (management) of which is located in the state that carries out armed aggression against Ukraine, are not allowed in Ukraine.
The activities of such religious organizations can be terminated in court under the administrative claim of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy or the prosecutor.
It is also proposed to allow the Ministry of Culture to conduct a religious examination of the activities of religious organizations to identify subordination to the aggressor country.
According to the document, the Ministry of Culture will have the right to issue orders to eliminate violations identified according to the results of such an examination within a month.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the UOC (MP) considers the bill banning its activities unconstitutional.
