Total state debt up 3.2% in December, 30.4% in 2023 to a record-breaking USD 145.3 billion
The total state (direct and state-secured) debt of Ukraine in December compared to the previous month increased by 3.2% or USD 4.49 billion, and for the year, it increased by 30.4% or USD 33.87 billion to a record USD 145.32 billion.
This follows from a statement by the Ministry of Finance, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
State and state-secured debt at the end of December amounted to UAH 5,519.48 billion, or USD 145.32 billion, against UAH 5,122.49 billion, or USD 140.82 billion, a month earlier.
The total amount of direct government debt as of the reporting date was UAH 5,188.07 billion (USD 136.59 billion) against UAH 4,799.4 billion (USD 131.94 billion) a month earlier.
At the same time, the direct foreign debt increased from USD 89.58 billion to USD 94.79 billion for the month.
Direct domestic debt increased in hryvnia, equivalent from UAH 1,540.97 billion to UAH 1,587.7 billion (in dollar terms, it decreased from USD 42.36 billion to USD 41.8 billion).
The state-secured debt at the end of the reporting month amounted to UAH 331.41 billion, or USD 8.73 billion.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2022, the total state debt increased by USD 13.39 billion, or by 13.66%, to USD 111.34 billion.
In 2021, the state debt increased by 8.52%, or by USD 7.69 billion, to USD 97.95 billion.
In 2020, the total state debt increased by 6.9%, from USD 84.4 billion to USD 90.3 billion.
