Ukraine's Trade Representative Mykolska: Ukraine, EU To Conduct Re-Evaluation Of Association Agreement
Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade / Trade Representative for Ukraine Nataliya Mykolska states that Ukraine and the European Union must conduct a re-evaluation of the work within the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.
Mykolska said this in an interview for the Ukrayinska Pravda online media, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"All agreements on creation of a Free Trade Zone expired nearly ten years ago. Over this time the situation has changed dramatically, mostly - in Ukraine. We lost 20% of our industrial assets due to the Russian aggression, and the structure of our economy was reshaped," Mykolska said.
That's why the revisiting of the old agreements was needed, according to Mykolska.
In addition, she said the timing for this was nearly perfect as the EU would anyway re-evaluate the existing agreements on free trade to accommodate exit of the United Kingdom from the EU as soon as they settle on main conditions.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union came in effect on September 1.
