EBRD Backs Appointment Of Lavrenchuk As NBU Head

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development favors appointment of Volodymyr Lavrenchuk as the head of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The EBRD's managing director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Francis Malige stated this in an interview to the Reuters news agency, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Malige said that the nomination of Raiffeisen Bank Aval's head Lavrenchuk, if confirmed, should be welcomed.

According to Reuters, Lavrenchuk has also been backed by former prime minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, who called him a "good guy."

The other candidates being considered include Ukreximbank's head Oleksandr Hrytsenko, TAScombank's owner Serhii Tihipko, and the National Association of Banks' head and senior adviser to Alfa Bank (Ukraine) Roman Shpek.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Valeriya Hontareva announced on April 10 that she would leave the post of govern or of the National Bank of Ukraine on May 10.
