Azerbaijan can replace gas from russia to Germany

Azerbaijan is ready to increase natural gas supplies to Germany, but for this, European partners will have to resolve infrastructure and financing issues. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, Ukrinform reports.

Currently, Azerbaijan supplies Germany with about 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year under a ten-year contract. Baku has the potential to increase these volumes, but technical limitations and logistics remain key obstacles.

Main conditions and problems of expanding supplies:

• Lack of free capacity: The existing TAP and TANAP pipelines are already operating at maximum capacity. Last year, Azerbaijan exported a total of 25 billion cubic meters of gas (mostly to Europe), and further growth requires the development of new infrastructure.
• Clear requests from buyers: Baku expects specific long-term applications for additional volumes from German importers.
• The problem with European financing: Ilham Aliyev was critical of the policy of EU financial institutions (in particular, the European Investment Bank), which are cutting support for oil and gas projects due to the transition to "green" energy.

According to the Azerbaijani leader, in order to implement large-scale gas supplies to Germany, European banks should reconsider their approaches and resume lending to infrastructure projects. Without new investments, the expansion of the gas transportation network remains impossible.
