Defense Ministry develops new class of guided munitions called Firefly

The Ministry of Defense has developed a new class of guided munitions called Firefly, which has passed testing and is ready for mass production. It was reported by the Ministry of Defense, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

According to the report, Firefly operates effectively at altitudes of up to 800 meters. After being launched, the munition independently calculates its flight path and adjusts it toward the target, maintaining accuracy even under enemy electronic warfare (EW) interference. This allows it to strike fortifications, bunkers, and other protected enemy positions from a distance that is safe for the carrier.

Developers tested Firefly on Ukraine’s main bomber drones. The system has proven its effectiveness and is ready for mass production.

The Ministry of Defense notes that in the first half of this year, it certified and authorized the use of 1,184 new models of weapons and military equipment by the Defense Forces, of which over 90% were manufactured in Ukraine; the arsenal of Ukraine’s defenders was also replenished with over 200 types of various ammunition.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Defense has codified and authorized for operational use in the Armed Forces of Ukraine the “Zmiy Mini Strike (Udarnyi)” ground-based reconnaissance and strike robotic system, developed by a Ukrainian manufacturer.
