Ukrainians slightly reduced purchase of gold and bought almost 19 kg in May
In May, Ukrainians bought 18.94 kg of gold (USD 2.8 million equivalent), which is 1% less than in April.
This is evidenced by the data of the National Bank, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
It is noted that in May the population bought 609 troy ounces of gold (USD 2.795 million equivalent).
The population also bought 879 troy ounces of silver (USD 68,000 equivalent), which is almost 2 times less than in April of the current year.
In January, banks sold 849 troy ounces of gold (USD 3.976 million) to the public, in February – 609 troy ounces for USD 3.061 million equivalent, in March – 918 troy ounces for USD 4.496 million, in April – 617 troy ounces of gold for USD 2.909 million.
The mass of one troy ounce (ozt) is 31.1034768 grams.
In 2025, the population bought more than 463 kg of gold (14,890 troy ounces).
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, from January 2, 2026, the National Bank excluded the Bulgarian lev from the list of foreign currencies to which the official rate of the hryvnia is set.
