Sikorski suggests that russia might attack Poland using Ukrainian drones
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski suggested that russia might carry out an operation under a false flag on Polish territory. According to him, the use of Ukrainian drones is also a possibility.
He made these remarks in an interview with CNN, as quoted by the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
“What they are capable of is some kind of provocation using false-flag operations and drones—perhaps Ukrainian drones—and then staging a response to a fake, non-existent attack on our part. They play these kinds of games, and we have to be ready for that. We have to tell them—and that’s exactly what we’re doing—that we know these actions won’t lead to anything good,” he said.
As a reminder, the United States warned Poland that russia, the aggressor state, is planning an armed “provocation” on Polish territory to test NATO’s resolve.
Against this backdrop, Sikorski recalled a 2022 warning from US intelligence that russia was preparing provocations intended to serve as a formal pretext and justification for invading Ukraine.
“This deterred the Russians from actually doing so (fabricating a false pretext—ed.). So I hope these warnings mean that Putin won’t press the provocation button,” he added.
Among other things, the Polish foreign minister stated that the North Atlantic Alliance “has grown stronger since Russia attacked Ukraine,” pointing to the accession of Finland and Sweden, as well as the rapid increase in European defense spending, partly under pressure from US President Donald Trump.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Warsaw does not plan to announce additional financial aid for Ukraine during the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.
Poland has also not yet made a final decision on transferring MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, although Kyiv continues to insist on receiving these aircraft. The parties are currently discussing the possibility of an exchange, under which Ukraine is prepared to transfer drones to Poland.
