In May, total state debt down 0.6% to USD 211 billion

The total state (direct and guaranteed) debt of Ukraine in May decreased compared to the previous month by 0.6%, or by USD 1.33 billion, to USD 210.67 billion.

This is stated in the data of the Ministry of Finance, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The state and state-guaranteed debt at the end of May amounted to UAH 9,325.55 billion, or USD 210.67 billion, compared to UAH 9,345.51 billion, or USD 212 billion, a month earlier.

The total amount of direct state debt as of the reporting date amounted to UAH 9,064.5 billion (USD 204.68 billion) compared to UAH 9,086.15 billion (USD 206.12 billion) a month earlier.

At the same time, direct external debt decreased from USD 160.66 billion to USD 159.85 billion for the month.

Direct domestic debt decreased in hryvnia equivalent from USH 2,003.73 billion to USH 1,988.90 billion (in dollar equivalent it decreased from USD 45.45 billion to ISD 44.93 billion).

State-guaranteed debt at the end of the reporting period amounted to UAH 261.05 billion, or USD 5.90 billion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, state and state-guaranteed debt at the end of December 2025 amounted to UAH 9,042.68 billion, or USD 213.33 billion, compared to UAH 8,616.54 billion, or USD 204.22 billion, a month earlier.

In 2024, Ukraine's total public (direct and guaranteed) debt increased by 14.27%, or USD 20.74 billion, to USD 166.06 billion.

In 2023, Ukraine's total public (direct and guaranteed) debt increased by 30.4%, or USD 33.87 billion, to USD 145.32 billion.

In 2022, total public debt increased by USD 13.39 billion, or 13.66%, to USD 111.34 billion.

In 2021, public debt increased by 8.52%, or USD 7.69 billion, to USD 97.95 billion.
