The Security Service detained a deeply undercover agent of the russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in Kherson. He turned out to be a native of the South Caucasus who had been recruited by the enemy and had been living in Ukraine since the 1990s under a forged passport, heading a local civic organization as a “cover.”

It was reported by the SSU, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

According to the SSU, the foreign national directed the occupiers’ fire at the bases and combat positions of the Defense Forces in the Kherson Region. The suspect came to the russians’ attention during the temporary occupation of the regional capital. There, he met an FSB officer whose father was acquainted with the suspect. After the city was liberated, russian intelligence officers placed the agent on “standby” and left him in the de-occupied territory.

Subsequently, a temporary FSB operational group from the left bank of the Kherson Region reestablished contact with him and tasked him with tracking the locations of the Defense Forces that the enemy was preparing to shell. To this end, the agent covertly elicited information from his acquaintances and then conducted further reconnaissance near potential “targets.” In his correspondence with his FSB handler, the suspect repeatedly expressed his hope for the full occupation of Kherson and the return of the kremlin regime to the city.

The Security Service gradually documented the agent’s crimes and detained him at his place of residence. During a search, forged documents and cell phones containing evidence of his work for the FSB were seized from him. Investigators from the Security Service informed the agent that he was suspected of violating Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the movement, deployment, or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under martial law).

The agent is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces up to 12 years in prison. The comprehensive operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the SSU detained two russian female agents who were planning a terrorist attack in Kyiv.
