Russia closed railway checkpoints on border with Finland, Estonia and Latvia from today
Russia has temporarily suspended movement through a number of railway checkpoints on the border with Finland, Estonia and Latvia from July 1.
The government of the aggressor country published a corresponding order.
The document provides for the suspension of the movement of people, vehicles, goods and cargo through the specified railway checkpoints. At the same time, the russian government did not explain the reasons for this decision and did not indicate when the restrictions will be lifted.
Which railway crossings has russia closed?
On the border with Finland, russia has suspended traffic through the following railway crossings:
- Vyborg (Leningrad Oblast);
- Svetogorsk (Leningrad Oblast);
- Vartsilya (Karelia);
- Lyutya (Karelia);
- St. Petersburg-Finlandsky (St. Petersburg).
The restrictions have also been extended to other directions:
- Pechory-Pskovskie - on the border with Estonia (Pskov Oblast);
- Pytalovo - on the border with Latvia (Pskov Oblast).
Russia did not name the reasons for the restrictions
The text of the government order only states that the movement of people, vehicles, goods and cargo through the listed crossings is temporarily suspended.
The document does not specify the duration of the restrictions. Official explanations as to why russia decided to close these railway crossings were also not made public.
As a reminder, the russian leadership has set a new goal for its troops to completely capture the Donetsk Region by December 31, 2026. At the same time, this deadline is unlikely to become final, because since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Kremlin has repeatedly postponed similar deadlines.
