President of Lithuania says he is ready to act as mediator between Poland and Ukraine
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has expressed his willingness to act as a mediator between Poland and Ukraine, provided both countries are willing to engage in negotiations. His remarks were reported by Euronews on Monday, June 29.
An informal summit was held in Poland, attended by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Estonian President Allar Karis, and Romanian President Nicușor Dan, and hosted by Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
“I am ready to act as a mediator between Warsaw and Kyiv, provided that both sides are willing to do so. We will also discuss this issue, which is extremely important to me, in an informal setting,” said the Lithuanian president.
According to him, it is necessary to ascertain the Polish president’s position on the root causes of the conflict and the possibilities for its resolution. The present is more important than the past, especially in the context of кussian aggression against Ukraine, Nausėda emphasized. The parties also discussed their common positions ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 23, the Office of the President of Poland announced that it had received the Order of the White Eagle, which had been returned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The award will be placed in permanent storage and will no longer be presented to other individuals.
On June 21, Polish President Karol Nawrocki explained the decision to revoke the Order of the White Eagle from Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating that it had exceeded the “pain threshold” of Polish society.
On June 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained that the decision to bestow the honorary title “In the Name of the Heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA)” on a unit of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was an initiative of the military personnel themselves.
