Instead of service - illegal earnings. Serviceman caught selling weapons in Ivano-Frankivsk Region
Officers from the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) have exposed a servicemember from a military unit in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast who had set up an illegal operation to sell weapons, ammunition, and a military drone. This is according to a statement from the SBI.
According to law enforcement officials, the senior soldier illegally possessed and sold two Kalashnikov assault rifles and ten F-1 grenades with fuses. He received USD 4,000 for the dangerous “merchandise” from civilians who were not authorized to purchase such weapons.
In addition, the suspect attempted to sell a DJI Matrice 4T quadcopter worth approximately UAH 300,000 for UAH 150,000. The origin of the drone, as well as the other weapons and ammunition, is currently being investigated.
After the suspect’s arrest, law enforcement officials also determined that the servicemember may be involved in the illegal sale of other ammunition through an intermediary. These circumstances are being investigated as part of the pretrial investigation.
The suspect has been notified of charges under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—the illegal acquisition, possession, and sale of firearms and ammunition.
The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for up to seven years.
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has requested that the suspect be held in pretrial detention.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the head of a territorial recruitment and social support center's group who struck a 60-year-old man with a stun gun will stand trial in Volyn.
