SBI opens proceedings on possible abuses in Skelia regiment
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations (URPI) and has begun an investigation after media reports about alleged torture and deaths of mobilized personnel in the Skelia assault regiment.
The State Bureau of Investigation announced this on its Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The grounds for opening proceedings were publications in the media about possible torture and deaths of mobilized personnel in the Skelia assault regiment.
As part of the investigation, information about the alleged use of violence, abuse of authority, and other possible violations by individual officials of the unit are being verified.
The department reported that all circumstances set forth in journalistic materials are being verified within the framework of a set of procedural actions.
It is also noted that the actions of all persons involved will be given a legal assessment if the facts of violations are confirmed.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, five servicemen of the 425th separate assault regiment Skelia from the Ivano-Frankivsk Region died in March 2026 shortly after mobilization. Some of them served less than two weeks, and relatives of several of the deceased reported signs of beatings on the bodies and contacted law enforcement.
