New historical record: amount of cash held by public reaches UAH 912 billion

In May, the monetary base—which includes cash in circulation outside banks, as well as banks’ reserve money and other money—increased by 3.5% to UAH 1,234.740 billion, according to preliminary data from the National Bank.

This is according to data from the National Bank, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Since the beginning of the year, the monetary base has grown by 5.1% from UAH 1,174.526 billion.

The money supply in May rose by 1.2% to UAH 4,098.007 billion, and since the beginning of the year, it has increased by 1.9% from UAH 4,021.312 billion.

According to preliminary data from the NBU, the amount of cash in circulation increased by 2.8% in May to UAH 911.956 billion, and since the beginning of the year, it has increased by 5.2% from UAH 866.944 billion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the monetary base grew by 11.6% in 2025 from UAH 1,052.113 billion.

In 2024, the monetary base grew by 7.7% from UAH 976.940 billion.

In 2023, the monetary base grew by 23.3% from UAH 792.537 billion.

In 2022, the monetary base grew by 19.6% from UAH 662.499 billion.

In 2021, the monetary base grew by 11.2%, from UAH 595.993 billion to 662.499 billion.
