Power outages occur in Crimea following explosions: reports indicate Tavriya Thermal Power Plant damaged
On the night of June 22, a series of explosions rocked the temporarily occupied Crimea, after which residents of several cities began reporting power outages. According to monitoring and OSINT sources, the power outages may have been caused by damage to energy infrastructure facilities.
Reports of explosions came from various parts of the peninsula. In particular, loud noises were heard in the area of Armiansk, as well as in Feodosia, Sevastopol, and a number of other settlements. Local residents also reported that air defense systems were active.
Information appeared on social media that flashes were visible near the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant in the area of Simferopol. Subsequently, residents of Feodosia, Kerch, Sevastopol, and other cities began complaining about power outages.
The Tavriya Thermal Power Plant had already come under attack the day before, on June 21. Photos posted online showed damage on the plant’s grounds: a burned-out tank, the charred facade of a neighboring building, and a hole in one of the buildings, which may have been caused by a drone attack.
As of the morning of June 22, the occupation authorities in Crimea had not officially reported on the consequences of the nighttime explosions or the causes of the widespread power outages.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of June 21, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a massive attack on Crimea. Air defense facilities, as well as an oil depot in occupied Kerch, were targeted.
It was also reported that Ukrainian drones struck three ferries on the Kerch ferry crossing. Later, the occupation forces announced that the ferry service would be suspended indefinitely.
