Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni took to social media to reject U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims regarding her alleged request to take a photo together, calling them senseless.

She wrote about this on social media.

The conflict escalated after Donald Trump told reporters in Italy that the Italian prime minister had allegedly asked to have her picture taken with him, and that he had agreed out of sympathy. He later repeated these claims, adding that such requests, in his opinion, might have been linked to political poll numbers.

In response, Giorgia Meloni released a video statement in which she declared that the claims were fabricated. She emphasized that Italy does not make such requests and also criticized the US president’s style of public statements regarding allies.

Separately, she commented on the issue of military bases, stating that their use is governed by existing international agreements.

Giorgia Meloni also noted that her political stance and approval ratings do not depend on personal contacts with Donald Trump, but are assessed based on her actions in office.

According to US media reports, the disapproval rating for Donald Trump’s policies in the United States exceeds his approval rating. Specifically, The New York Post reports a 58% disapproval rating versus a 39% approval rating. Trump himself does not publicly acknowledge these figures and criticizes some US media outlets.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump arrived late to a meeting of world leaders at the G7 summit and addressed them by saying that he is the boss.
