Ukrainians who suffered from sexual violence by russians will be paid EUR 3,000 - Svyrydenko
The government approved a mechanism for immediate reparations for victims of sexual violence related to russian aggression, providing a one-time payment of EUR 3,000.
This was announced by Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko in the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Children born as a result of this crime will also have the right to such support.
Financing will be carried out at the expense of contributions from international partners and donors, receiving this payment will not affect a person's right to receive subsidies or other types of state assistance.
A special commission under the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity will be established to consider appeals.
"The whole process is designed to ensure confidentiality, respect for human dignity and avoid re-traumatization," the Prime Minister said.
According to her, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General's Office has recorded 398 cases of war-related sexual violence, 248 against women and 150 against men.
She added that the number of cases may be higher, as victims often remain silent about these crimes due to the risk of condemnation and stigma.
Svyrydenko noted that russia uses sexual violence as another type of weapon against Ukrainians.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the United Nations added russia to the so-called black list of countries that commit sexual violence in conflict.
