Hungary achieved the removal of the wording on the accelerated accession of Ukraine to the European Union from the joint declaration of the EU summit. This was stated by the country's Prime Minister Peter Magyar in his post in X and Euronews.

According to the head of the Hungarian government, it was on his initiative that the clause on the acceleration of Ukraine's European integration was removed from the document at the last moment.

"Regarding the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU, on my initiative, the paragraph concerning the acceleration of accession was removed from the text at the last moment. It was not easy. For the first time in a year and a half, there may be a final declaration adopted by all member states," Magyar wrote on the social network X.

In addition, Budapest expressed reservations about the opening of the next negotiation clusters on Ukraine's accession to the EU. According to Euronews, some other member states also hold a similar position.

"We have reservations about the opening of all other chapters of the negotiations after the opening of the first cluster. And we are not alone in this - there are other member states that say the same. We stand for an accession process based on merit and results," the Hungarian Prime Minister said.

At the same time, according to Euronews, during the summit in Brussels, Magyar had a short personal conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian leader expressed hope that Hungary will support the opening of new negotiation clusters on Ukraine's membership in the EU sooner than currently expected.

We will remind that the EU is creating a mechanism to punish new members for violating the rules and abusing the veto.
