US President Donald Trump has stated that he is willing to consider granting American defense companies licenses to manufacture missiles in European countries and in Ukraine, according to Bloomberg.

According to the publication, Ukraine is in dire need of modern air defense systems and interceptor missiles to protect against russian ballistic attacks. Currently, such missiles are manufactured only in the US, which limits the speed of delivery.

During the G7 summit, the US leader told his allies that Washington might allow the production of certain types of weapons using American technology outside the United States—specifically in Europe and Ukraine.

“They would like to be able to do this, and we will consider the matter,” Trump told reporters when asked about such an initiative.

According to Bloomberg, the issue has become pressing amid the need to quickly replenish missile stocks and the growing demand for air defense systems among US allies. Officials who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed these details to the publication.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the G7 has promised Ukraine more air defense systems and long-range weapons and is preparing new sanctions against russia.
