Trump and Zelenskyy will not hold bilateral meeting on sidelines of G7 summit - The Guardian
US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will attend the G7 summit in Evian, France, on June 15–17, but no bilateral meeting between the two leaders is planned.
The Guardian reported this, citing sources.
A senior Trump administration official told the publication that the US president will participate in a G7 working session alongside Zelenskyy in France, but he will not hold a bilateral meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart.
At the same time, Trump, according to the official, plans to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines, in particular with French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and India, the official said.
One of the senior US officials, who briefed reporters on Trump’s trip on condition of anonymity, stated that the advance of russian troops “has more or less stopped.”
He added: “We want the war to end as quickly as possible.”
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously stated that peace talks between russia and Ukraine have so far “not been fruitful,” and the US is not interested in endless meetings without progress. At the same time, the country is ready to continue participating in the talks if they prove productive.
Recently, Rubio congratulated citizens of the aggressor state on russia Day and at the same time emphasized that the United States is committed to achieving a peaceful resolution to the russian-Ukrainian war.
