Ukraine to form fourth echelon of air defense to protect two more regions from drones - Syrskyi
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are forming a fourth echelon of air defense, which will cover two more regions of the country, and are also modernizing army aviation to combat drones. This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi following the results of a meeting on building the capabilities of "small air defense".
According to the Commander-in-Chief, in May, Ukrainian interceptor drones in three echelons of air defense destroyed over 3,500 russian UAVs. The highest efficiency is demonstrated by the Forces of Unmanned Systems, which are responsible for the second echelon - they have more than 1,200 downed drones per month. Helicopters are also actively involved in the destruction of drones, which eliminated more than 440 air targets in May.
To counter new threats, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are modernizing aviation and increasing weapons production.
"We are equipping helicopters with modern detection and targeting means, expanding the line of weapons of destruction with new missile weapons, which are already demonstrating excellent results. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to increase their own capabilities in the production of such elements," Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized.
The Commander-in-Chief also warned that russia is changing tactics and plans to increase the share of jet attack drones to 50%. In response to these challenges, active training of new UAV interceptor crews is currently underway in Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, last night, air defense forces shot down almost two hundred Russian drones during a massive night attack.
