Poland supports depriving Ukrainian men of draft age of temporary protection in EU - media
The Polish authorities approve of the idea of limiting access to temporary protection and social benefits in the European Union for Ukrainian men of draft age, which the relevant ministers of the EU countries will discuss as early as June 4.
It was reported by RMF24 with reference to its own diplomatic sources, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"In our opinion, it does not cause any controversy that persons who cannot legally leave Ukraine cannot receive temporary protection in the EU," the publication quotes a Polish diplomat.
Warsaw notes that such a step will have a positive impact on relations with official Kyiv, which supports such restrictions due to a serious shortage of personnel at the front. In addition, Poland advocates the gradual abolition of special privileges for Ukrainian refugees and the transition to standard EU migration rules.
At the same time, the introduction of restrictions based on geographical principles is unacceptable for the Polish side.
This is a practice that Norway previously implemented, depriving Ukrainians from "relatively safe" western regions (Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattia, etc.) of the right to automatic protection.
Poland insists that the criteria should be the same for all regions of Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Union is currently actively discussing the possibility of not extending the future extension of temporary protection status to new male applicants of draft age.
