Japan allocates over USD 14 million for non-lethal equipment for Ukraine through NATO

The Japanese government has allocated USD 14.65 million (approximately JPY 2.2 billion) to support NATO’s “Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List” (PURL) initiative. It was announced by the press service of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These funds will be used to purchase an aid package consisting exclusively of non-lethal military equipment. Tokyo will coordinate the specific list of items and equipment directly with Alliance representatives.

This assistance is expected to complement the support that Japan has previously provided to Kyiv on a regular basis through the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP).

"Japan will continue to support to Ukraine in order to achieve a just and lasting peace and intends to further strengthen Japan-NATO cooperation," the Japanese Foreign Ministry emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Japan will send military personnel to the NATO mission headquarters supporting Ukraine for the first time.

In January of this year, it was announced that Japan would allocate USD 25 million to Ukraine for humanitarian demining and rehabilitation.

And in February, it was reported that Japan plans to join the NATO initiative to supply Ukraine with US-made ammunition and equipment and will finance the purchase of non-lethal equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
