Zelenskyy talks about US reaction to his letter on missile defense

Ukraine has not yet received an official response from the White House and the US Congress to its letter regarding the supply of additional missiles for the Patriot air defense systems. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement while speaking with journalists after signing a security agreement in Sweden, according to RBC-Ukraine.

According to the head of state, despite the lack of an official document, American lawmakers have expressed solidarity with Kyiv’s needs. Zelenskyy noted that the day before, he personally met with congressmen and senators who had visited Ukraine, and they supported the proposals addressed to Congress and the Trump administration. “We are counting on an official response from Congress and the White House,” the President emphasized.

Zelenskyy explained that Patriot systems are currently the only weapon in Ukraine’s arsenal capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, and the United States is their sole manufacturer. "As for anti-ballistic defense, for now, as you know, apart from the Patriots, we have no other tools," he stated.

The President stressed that diplomatic efforts have not yet stopped russian aggression, and Ukraine is forced to deter the enemy with its own long-range capabilities. At the same time, without new deliveries of anti-missile systems, the situation on the front lines and in the rear will continue to deteriorate. “We are earnestly asking our American partners to help us by providing more anti-ballistic missiles, or to grant Ukraine licenses so that it can increase its own production and provide assistance to other countries,” the head of state stated.

The US Congress is expected to resume full operations as early as June, and it is then that the Ukrainian side anticipates the adoption of official decisions regarding this request.
