Rada refuses to introduce taxation of parcels from abroad
The Verkhovna Rada has refused to impose taxes on packages from abroad.
Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a Verkhovna Rada member from the Holos faction, has announced this on his Telegram channel, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
Lawmakers did not support the amendments to Bill No. 12360 (changes to the Customs Code) regarding the taxation of parcels.
The document provided for the abolition of the duty-free threshold for parcels valued at up to EUR 150.
It was not even able to proceed to a second reading.
It received 222 votes out of the 226 required, meaning the bill was rejected.
The introduction of a tax on international shipments was a mandatory condition for the next IMF tranche.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 6, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy decided to recommend that Parliament adopt as a basis and in its entirety the revised draft law No. 15112-D on VAT taxation of e-commerce transactions, as well as to adopt in the second reading draft law No. 12360 on evaluating the effectiveness of customs authorities and implementing customs procedures for parcels.
