Wheat prices rising rapidly in ports and on exchanges: buyers pay premiums for fast deliveries

The week passed without sharp fluctuations on the domestic wheat market. Food grade 2 wheat at elevators rose in price by 0.24% to UAH 10,116.43 per ton, while grade 3 remained practically unchanged, stopping at UAH 9,936.32 per tont. Feed grade 4 wheat was fixed at UAH 9,631.36 per ton.

The export direction showed more pronounced dynamics: the DAP Odesa price increased by USD 3.10 per ton, reaching USD 225.80 per ton against USD 222.70 per ton a week earlier. The limited supply of grain on the market encourages buyers with urgent needs to pay premiums for prompt shipments.

On world exchanges, the growth was much more noticeable. On Monday, May 18, American wheat on the Chicago Board of Trade jumped by 6.87% to USD 249.00 per ton. Euronext also responded by increasing by 2.26% to USD 248.50 per ton, compared to USD 243.00 per ton last week.

The catalyst was news of US-China trade talks, which created an optimistic mood among grain market participants.
