Svitolina wins WTA 1000 tournament in Rome for third time

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina won the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, defeating American Coco Gauff in the final.

The match result was reported during a broadcast cited by Suspilne.

The final match lasted three sets. Svitolina won the first set, Gauff won the second, and the Ukrainian tennis player prevailed again in the decisive third set.

For Svitolina, this is her third WTA 1000 title in Rome in her career. She previously won this tournament in 2017 and 2018.

This trophy is the Ukrainian’s biggest in the last seven years. Overall, Svitolina has won her 20th title in her professional career.

The WTA 1000 is a series of women’s tennis tournaments second in status only to the Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open. A victory in such a competition earns a player up to 1,000 ranking points.

As a reminder, on May 15, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, defeating world No. 3 Iga Świątek in a three-set semifinal.
