On Friday, May 15, russian forces struck a commuter train in the Zaporizhzhia Region with a drone. Two passengers were injured. It was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the strike occurred near one of the train cars.
"The Ukrzaliznytsia Monitoring Center alerted the locomotive crew to an aerial threat, after which the train was stopped and the evacuation of passengers began. Time was extremely limited, so, according to preliminary information, two passengers who had not yet managed to evacuate sustained shrapnel wounds. All circumstances are being clarified," the company said.
It is noted that the victims were given first aid and handed over to medical personnel. Railway workers are also accompanying and remaining with the passengers at the medical facility.
"We are currently working to restore train service on the section and continue to closely monitor the security situation in the region and respond," the Ukrzaliznytsia statement said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukrzaliznytsia is installing over 800 modular shelters across the country to enhance the protection of employees. This decision was made due to the increasing attacks by the aggressor country, the russian federation, on the railway infrastructure.
