Military parade in RF capital, sanctioned by decree of Ukrainian President, became one of the shortest in history
The parade on Red Square in the capital of the russian federation, Moscow, on May 9, 2026, lasted about 45 minutes and became one of the shortest in the modern history of holding these events.
This was announced by reporters of the russian publication The Moscow Times, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
This year's parade turned out to be almost half as short as the anniversary parade in 2025, which lasted about 1.5 hours.
In 2024, the parade lasted a little more than 50 minutes: the broadcast began at 10:00 am Moscow time and ended at about 10:52 am.
In 2023, the parade was comparable to the current one in terms of duration: it lasted about 47 minutes.
In 2022, the parade was held for exactly an hour, in 2021 - 1 hour and 5 minutes. The 2020 parade, which was postponed due to the pandemic to June 24, the day of the historic 1945 parade, lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Almost all parades in 2010-2019 lasted at least an hour: about 1 hour in 2019; 1 hour and 5 minutes in 2018; 1 hour and 10 minutes in 2016; 1.5 hours in 2015.
The parades in 2014, 2013, and 2009 lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes: in 2012 and 2011 - about 1 hour, in 2010 - 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The exception was the 2017 parade, which was shortened to 50 minutes due to adverse weather that did not allow the aerial part of the parade to be held.
For the first time in 19 years, the parade in Moscow was held without military equipment: instead of missile launchers and tanks, only columns marched through Red Square. The demonstration of weapons in the broadcast of the parade was replaced by video footage: viewers were shown a video with a demonstration of drones and nuclear weapons. It showed "samples of the latest russian equipment", including drones, as well as the nuclear submarines "Arkhangelsk" and "Knyaz Vladimir".
For the first time in a long time, Duma members and government officials were not allowed to the parade stands. Vladimir putin was accompanied only by members of the Security Council - the closest circle of officials to the president, including the heads of the security services, the presidential administration, and the heads of the chambers of parliament - Valentina Matvienko and Vyacheslav Volodin.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree allowing the aggressor country of russia to hold a parade in Moscow dedicated to Victory Day on Saturday, May 9.
