New package of European sanctions will be aimed at financial isolation of russia - Vlasiuk
Work on the European Union’s 21st package of sanctions against russia, the aggressor nation, will focus on further financial isolation of moscow and improving mechanisms for tracking imports of components used in weapons production.
Vladyslav Vlasyuk, the President of Ukraine’s Representative for Sanctions Policy, has stated on Thursday, April 23, as reported by Suspilne.
According to him, Ukraine has already begun consultations with European partners regarding a new sanctions package. Kyiv proposes focusing efforts on further marginalizing russian financial institutions. This involves expanding the list of banks subject to restrictions. Additionally, it is necessary to completely shut down the channels through which russians use cryptocurrency to circumvent sanctions.
"At the same time, we are working to strengthen technological controls and improve mechanisms for tracking weapons components to prevent dual-use goods from falling into the hands of the aggressor," Vlasiuk said.
He added that Ukraine will seek to expand measures against the russian energy sector. Strengthening the embargo and restricting maritime oil exports remain a priority.
Work is also continuing on personal sanctions against representatives of russia’s “big business.”
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 23, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that the European Union is already working on the 21st package of sanctions against russia.
