US-Iran talks in Pakistan end without agreement after 21 hours of discussions

US-Iran talks in Pakistan lasted 21 hours and ended without reaching agreements, US Vice President JD Vance said, noting that Tehran rejected Washington's demand to abandon the development of nuclear weapons.

Vance was quoted by the Associated Press.

The American side was represented at the talks by Vice President JD Vance. According to him, throughout the entire time the US tried to get Iran to commit not to seek nuclear weapons, but these proposals were not accepted.

During the talks, Vance contacted US President Donald Trump and other administration officials several times. After the meetings, he said that the US was sticking with its "final and best offer" and was awaiting the Iranian side's decision, after which he announced his departure from Pakistan.

Iranian state television also reported "serious" differences between the parties. According to Iranian state media, the Iranian delegation outlined its "red lines" during meetings with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, including demands for compensation for the consequences of US-Israeli strikes and the unblocking of frozen assets.

The talks took place after a two-week truce between the parties. It is currently unknown whether it will remain in force after the meetings ended without a result.

US President Donald Trump said it did not matter to him whether a deal would be reached, noting that the US had already begun to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil transportation route. According to him, the blockade of the strait was used by Iran as a tool of pressure, which affected stock markets due to fluctuations in oil prices.

These negotiations were the first at the highest level between the US and Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. They were also the first official personal contacts between the parties since 2015, when an agreement was reached on Iran's nuclear program.

Recall that the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that the US had violated some of the agreements even before the start of the negotiation process.
