Russia plans to open four more embassies in African countries: what are putin's goals
Russia has announced that it is preparing to open four more new embassies in African countries. Such a presence, combined with ideological influence, is intended to form a loyal bloc of states to support its positions, expand opportunities for circumventing sanctions, and also to fuel russia's resource base - it is also about recruiting people for the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
The aggressor state of russia already has 45 diplomatic missions in Africa and wants to "cover the entire continent." At the same time, the expansion is taking place in parallel with the growth of political and ideological influence - russia is actively promoting anti-Western narratives, in particular the rhetoric of "fighting Western colonialism", positioning itself as an alternative partner for African countries.
At the same time, the russian presence has pragmatic goals. In particular, it is about the formation of a bloc of states loyal to Moscow, which can support its positions on international platforms, as well as expanding opportunities for circumventing Western sanctions.
"The African direction is also of interest to russia as a resource base: the Kremlin is seeking access to minerals and, at the same time, is increasing the practice of recruiting citizens of African countries to participate in the war against Ukraine," the department added, emphasizing the "consumer" nature of the Kremlin's interest in African countries.
We will remind, the government of Cameroon officially confirmed the death of 16 of its citizens who fought on the side of the russian federation.
