A russian mercenary from Nepal, Madan Kumal, was killed in the Donetsk Region while attempting to storm Ukrainian positions. Before that, he had only spent a few weeks in training.

This was reported by the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense.

The Nepalese citizen was involved in the assault due to losses among russian infantry units, although he had previously been in defensive positions.

How a Nepalese man ended up in the russian army

Madan Kumal signed a contract with the russian army on October 16, 2023 in Moscow for a period of four years. After that, he was sent to military unit No. 29328, where foreigners, including citizens of Nepal, have been sent repeatedly. Cases of desertion among foreign military personnel were recorded in this unit.

How long did the foreign mercenary undergo training?

After several weeks of training, Kumal was sent to the front line. According to the Defense Intelligence, he acquired his basic skills directly at the front.

In February 2024, he was offered russian citizenship, but he refused in writing, explaining this by his intention to return home.

After five months of service, the mercenary's relatives joined the protests demanding the return of Nepalese citizens from russia and filed a corresponding application with the consulate. Kumal did not have time to return to his homeland - he was killed during hostilities.

As a reminder, Nepal's Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud asked the aggressor state of russia to send back hundreds of its citizens who were recruited for the war against Ukraine and to return the bodies of the deceased Nepalese.
