Cucumber prices in Ukraine began to fall after some growth
Last week, wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers began to fall in Ukraine due to the warm and sometimes sunny weather that has settled in the country and significantly accelerated the ripening of local greenhouse vegetables.
This is stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The report states that cucumber samples in farms were growing rapidly, and due to a sharp increase in supply, producers were forced to gradually reduce selling prices.
Thus, closer to the weekend, Ukrainian greenhouse combines were selling cucumbers at UAH 125-165 per kilogram, which is on average 10% cheaper than a week earlier.
Market participants attribute the downward price dynamics to a significant drop in demand against the background of still quite high prices for greenhouse vegetables.
The supply of cucumbers continues to increase rapidly.
The volumes of samples in greenhouse combines this week have increased significantly due to favorable weather conditions.
At the same time, supplies of cheaper imported products remain stable, the price of which, as a rule, does not exceed UAH 100 per kilogram.
It is noted that despite the current decrease in cost, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are currently sold on average 25% more expensive than in the same period last year.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, prices for white cabbage in Ukraine are already half as low as a year ago.
