The deputy chairman of the Security Council of the aggressor state of russia, Dmitry Medvedev, said that moscow should abandon its "tolerant position" towards Ukraine's possible membership in the European Union. His words were quoted by Reuters on Friday, April 3.

Medvedev said that the EU could turn from an economic union into a "full-fledged military alliance. According to him, the russian federation should abandon its "tolerant position" towards Ukraine's possible membership in the European Union.

"The EU is no longer just an economic union. It can quickly turn into a full-fledged military alliance, openly hostile to Russia and in some respects worse than NATO. It's time to abandon the tolerant attitude to our neighbors' accession to what is now the military-economic European Union," Medvedev said.

The deputy head of the Security Council also emphasized that disagreements within NATO could push the EU to reformat into something more than just an economic union. In his opinion, the United States may take symbolic steps, such as reducing the number of American troops in NATO member states, but will not withdraw from the Alliance.
