Trump reviews US role in NATO and aid to Ukraine - US Ambassador to NATO Whitaker

The Trump administration has begun a major reassessment of the US role in NATO and the formats for supporting European efforts in Ukraine. This was stated on the Newsmax TV channel by US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.

According to him, absolutely all areas of foreign policy related to European security are subject to review.

Whitaker stressed that such actions are a direct fulfillment of the President's campaign promises. "I think it's absolutely clear now that President Trump is evaluating and reevaluating everything. Whether it's our participation in NATO, our support for European efforts in Ukraine, or anything else the United States is doing," the diplomat noted.

He added that the "America First" approach is now defining for every situation where US resources are involved.

The Permanent Representative emphasized Trump's sole role in shaping the renewed course, noting that it is he, as Commander-in-Chief, who makes key decisions, and the Washington apparatus will only carry out these intentions. The most resonant part of the statement was the words about the White House's future steps towards allies and partners.

"Absolutely all options are on the table now," Matthew Whitaker summarized.

These statements came against the backdrop of news that Trump is demanding greater involvement from European partners in resolving crises, in particular, unblocking strategic logistical routes, directly linking these efforts to further military assistance to Ukraine.

Recall that Trump ordered the allies to retake the Strait of Hormuz from Iran themselves.
