Last decade was the warmest in history of scientific observations
In 2024, the average global temperature exceeded the pre-industrial level by about 1.55°C, which made this year the hottest in the entire period of observations since 1850. And the decade from 2015 to 2025 was the warmest in the entire history of instrumental measurements.
This is stated in the report of the UN World Meteorological Organization, cited by Reuters.
According to the report, 2025 was also among the three warmest: the average temperature was 1.43°C higher than the pre-industrial level.
The document recorded a significant reduction in the mass of glaciers in key regions. The loss rates were among the five worst in the entire period of observations, with the largest reductions occurring in Iceland and North America.
"The state of the global climate is extraordinary. Planet Earth is pushing itself beyond its limits. All key climate indicators are signaling danger," said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
As part of the Paris Climate Agreement, countries pledged to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Ukraine signed the agreement in April 2016 and was one of the first to ratify it.
As a reminder, 52 temperature records were recorded in Kyiv in 2024.
