Seed areas in Ukraine in 2025 up 2.3%, but remain below 2023 level

The total area of seed crops of the main agricultural crops in Ukraine in 2025 amounted to 80,420.25 hectares, which is 2.3% more compared to 2024 (78,602.71 hectares), but 11.8% lower than the figure for 2023 (91,161.83 hectares),

This was reported by the Seed Association of Ukraine (SAU).

The association noted that the area under durum winter wheat has more than doubled - from 209.4 hectares in 2024 to 424.66 hectares in 2025. At the same time, there is a decrease in the area of spring wheat, especially durum varieties - almost three times. Winter barley also showed positive dynamics, which indicates a renewed interest in the crop on the part of farms.

According to the data presented in the table, positive dynamics in 2025 were demonstrated by corn (+16.7%) - up to 25,680 hectares, soft winter wheat (+5.9%, 25,120 hectares) and rapeseed (+46.3%, 0.28 thousand hectares). At the same time, the area under seed sunflower (–12%, 10,620 hectares) and spring barley (–8.5%, 2,980 hectares) continues to decrease. Seed soybean, after growing in 2024, returned to the indicators of two years ago – 12,840 hectares.

"In general, there is a slow recovery of seed areas for key crops, which is an important signal for the domestic market and export-oriented segments," emphasized SAU Executive Director Suzana Hryhorenko.
