The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) counterintelligence and the National Police have foiled new attempts by russians to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv. Law enforcement officers detained an agent of the russian aggressor country who was preparing explosions in the city center. This is said in a statement by the SSU.

The investigation showed that the attacker was to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and plant them near the administrative buildings of the frontline city. Then russian special services planned to remotely detonate the bombs during rush hour by calling cell phones with explosives.

"SSU officers exposed the intentions of the occupiers in advance and detained the agent red-handed in a rented apartment while he was making an IED," the special service said.

According to the SSU, the enemy's task was carried out by an 18-year-old drug addict, whom the enemy recruited on a Telegram channel in search of "easy money for a dose."

Following the instructions of a curator from the aggressor country of russia, the agent purchased components for improvised bombs and began to manufacture them from improvised means.

During searches in the detainee's temporary home, 2.5 liters of chemical liquid, electrical components for initiating an explosion, and a smartphone with evidence of cooperation with the occupiers were seized.

SSU investigators informed the defendant of suspicion of aiding and abetting in the preparation of a terrorist act committed by a group of persons in prior conspiracy (Part 1 of Article 14, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The offender is in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
