NBU continues to support banks' cash desks with foreign currency
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has again conducted an operation to support banks' cash desks with foreign currency.
This is stated in the NBU's message, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Results of the National Bank's operations to support banks' cash desks with foreign currency, which took place on March 18:
- the announced volume of operations is USD 100 million and EUR 30 million;
- the number of participants is two banks;
- the total volume of applications is USD 50 million and EUR 30 million.
In general, during March 9-18, the supply of currency announced within the framework of the relevant operations significantly exceeded the actual demand from banks.
This confirms that there is no shortage of cash currency.
The National Bank is ready to continue supporting banks in providing their cash desks with foreign currency.
The frequency and volume of the relevant operations will depend on the needs of the banking system.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the decision to conduct operations to reinforce cash registers was made by the NBU on March 6 as a preventive measure in order to support, if necessary, the cash currency liquidity of banks against the backdrop of the illegal seizure of Oschadbank's cash collection machines in Hungary.
