Sean Penn, who missed Oscar ceremony, meets with Zelenskyy
Hollywood actor Sean Penn, who did not appear at the 2026 Oscar ceremony despite receiving the statuette for Best Supporting Actor, arrived in Kyiv and met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The head of state reported this on his Telegram channel.
"Thanks to you, Sean, we know what a true friend of Ukraine is. You have been with Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war. And today. And we know that you will continue to be with our country and our people," he wrote.
Earlier, the actor publicly stated that he would boycott the ceremony. He criticized the organizers for not giving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy the opportunity to make a speech during the award ceremony in 2022.
This is not the first time the actor has received an Oscar. In 2004, he won the statuette for Best Actor in the film "Mysterious River", and in 2009 - for his role in the film "Harvey Milk".
