Technical meeting gives permission to operate Patona Bridge subject to compliance with established restrictions - Klitschko

Patona Bridge can be operated subject to compliance with established restrictions. This conclusion was made by a technical meeting. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported this and added that, despite this, reconstruction of the facility is necessary.

"According to the results of the technical meeting held in early March 2026, it was confirmed that the bridge can be operated - subject to compliance with established restrictions for transport," Vitali Klitschko reported.

The following restrictions are currently in effect on the bridge:

• movement of vehicles with an axle load of more than 7 tons is prohibited;
• maximum weight of one vehicle - up to 17 tons;
• maximum weight of vehicles in a convoy - up to 10 tons;
• the current traffic pattern is maintained: two lanes from the right bank to the left and three in the opposite direction.

But the reconstruction of the object, which is a monument of local architecture, is necessary, the mayor emphasized. The last scheduled inspection of the bridge structures was carried out in 2025 by the "Ukrainian Institute of Steel Structures named after V.M. Shymanovsky". Its results confirmed the need for restoration work.

The balance sheet holder of the structure - KP "Kyivavtoshliakhmist" - constantly monitors the technical condition of the bridge and performs a set of works for its operational maintenance.

Klitschko recalled that in 2020 the city was ready to begin repair work. The contractor and work plan were announced. However, the procurement procedure was repeatedly appealed by the participants in the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine. Because of this, the decision to determine the winner was repeatedly canceled, which made it impossible to complete the procedure and determine the general design organization. After the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, the bidding procedure was canceled.

"After that, the state actually removed the city and took over the project. In 2023-2024, the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development of Ukraine and the Service for Infrastructure Restoration and Development in the Kyiv Region notified the Kyiv City State Administration of the preparation of documentation for a tender for the development of scientific and design documentation for the restoration of the bridge. And then in 2025, the Agency informed about the lack of targeted funding for the implementation of the project and the determination of a new customer for the work. That is, having stalled the work on the restoration of the bridge for several years, the state, one might say, refused them!" Vitali Klitschko noted.

He also reported that the city is currently working on the issue of determining the customer for the development of scientific and design documentation and further restoration of the bridge. The city is in cooperation with central executive authorities. In particular, with the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, regarding the implementation of this project.
