The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering easing sanctions against the aggressor country russia to "cool" the rise in world oil prices, which have jumped to record levels due to the war against Iran.

Reuters reported this, citing its own sources on Monday, March 9.

The three unnamed sources said on condition of anonymity that the White House is discussing both broader sanctions relief and more targeted measures that would allow some countries, such as India, to buy russian oil without fear of sanctions.

Last week, the US already allowed Indian refiners to buy russian oil shipped to ships before March 5. The licenses for the companies were issued for 30 days, but judging by the situation in the Middle East, this period may be extended.

Reuters sources said that the White House may announce the easing of sanctions against russia.

The agency notes that the easing of sanctions could help increase global oil supplies amid a massive disruption in exports from the Persian Gulf countries. However, this will surely complicate US efforts to deprive russia of revenues to continue the war against Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Monday, March 9, it became known, that the International Monetary Fund and the International Energy Agency called on the G7 countries to release strategic oil reserves to stabilize the market situation.

As a reminder, due to the war between Israel and the United States against Iran, world oil prices last weekend exceeded USD 100 per barrel.

At Monday auction, the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil reached almost USD 120. This has not happened since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country russia.
