Poland intensified checks on migrants: 91 Ukrainians may be deported

A large-scale operation to check foreigners was carried out in Poland, as a result of which 91 Ukrainian citizens received a decision on forced return. This was reported by Polskie Radio with reference to the Minister of the Interior of Poland, Marcin Kerwiński.

The operation took place on March 2-3 throughout the country. More than 27,000 law enforcement officers were involved in it. In total, security forces conducted about 1,800 checks at the places of residence and work of migrants. Specialized units, including the Central Cybercrime Bureau and the Bureau of Police Investigations, also participated in the raids.

According to official data, 1,944 people who were wanted or had violated the law were detained. Among them, 147 were foreigners. The largest group was Ukrainians - 91 people. Citizens of Georgia, Belarus, Moldova and russia were also detained.

The main reasons for deportation decisions are exceeding the permitted period of stay, illegal work, threat to public order or the presence of criminal warrants. Some of those detained were previously wanted.

The Border Guard Service has already initiated more than 110 deportation procedures. For most, this means the cancellation of the right to stay, forced escort to the border and a ban on entry to the Schengen zone for a period of six months to five years.

The Polish authorities say that such checks will become regular and call on foreigners to closely monitor the legality of their status and employment.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the National Bank assumes that the net return of refugees may begin in 2027.
