Biden says Trump will try to "steal" midterm elections
Former US President Joe Biden, speaking to Democrats in South Carolina, said that the current head of the White House, Donald Trump, will try to "steal" the midterm elections.
Joseph Biden's speech was caught on video.
"Here’s the good news; in America, the power still belongs to the people, for now. And the way to show that power is to vote. Show up and vote. And folks, when we do that, that’s bad news for Donald Trump, and he knows it. That’s why he’s trying to pull out more and more barriers. He’s trying to steal the election because he knows if he can’t win your vote, so he’s going to do everything he can to prevent you from wanting to vote. I’ll mark my words," Biden said.
In December, Trump said that it might not be "worth holding an election" given what he said were the achievements of his administration. He also spoke of the risk of the Republican Party losing control of the House or Senate in the 2026 midterm elections, citing historical trends.
"It's a deep psychological thing: when you win the presidency, you don't win midterm elections," he said.
The Washington Post reported that pro-Trump activists have been circulating a draft executive order that would expand the president's powers during the upcoming elections. The document refers to China's alleged interference in the 2020 elections; according to The Wall Street Journal, these allegations are proposed to be used as a basis for a state of emergency, which would ban voting by mail and the use of electronic devices.
When asked by journalists about the possible declaration of a state of emergency, Trump replied: "Who told you about that? I didn't."
At the same time, Trump is calling on Republicans to support a bill that would require mandatory proof of citizenship during voter registration and presentation of an ID to vote.
Recall that US President Donald Trump hinted that he is entitled to another presidential term, as he believes he was deceived in the 2020 elections.
