Trump threatens Netflix with consequences over statement by board member and former Obama adviser
US President Donald Trump has called on Netflix to fire board member Susan Rice or face consequences after she said Democrats would take action against corporations that "kneel" to Trump.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
Trump announved this on TruthSocial, without specifying what "consequences" he was referring to.
Rice was national security adviser under Barack Obama, as well as US ambassador to the UN, and worked in Joe Biden's White House. She returned to the Netflix board in 2023 after leaving the Biden administration.
In the podcast, Rice threatened corporations, news organizations and law firms that agreed to Trump's loyalty demands. According to her, they will be held accountable if Democrats return to power.
"If they think Democrats are going to play by the old rules, they are mistaken," she added.
The publication notes that Trump has previously criticized other networks for content he does not like, and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr has threatened to revoke the networks' broadcasting licenses.
We will also recall that the White House has launched a special section on its official website with a list of media outlets whose materials it calls "fake" or "biased." It is worth noting that the list includes leading US and British media outlets.
Trump has also repeatedly quarreled with journalists. In particular, he lashed out at an ABC News reporter who pressed him on his comments about the controversial military strikes on suspected oil tankers. He called her "intolerable and appalling."
Earlier, on March 15, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order ordering cuts to funding for seven government agencies as part of the government's "cost-cutting efforts."
