Only with full sovereignty and territorial integrity peace in Ukraine is possible - UN Secretary-General Guterres
On the eve of the fourth anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that achieving a just peace must fully ensure the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
He said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
Guterres stressed that the full-scale invasion of the russian federation is a violation of international law, in particular the UN Charter, and over the years Ukraine has suffered devastating losses, mass displacement of people, repeated attacks on the civilian population and critical energy infrastructure, as well as serious human rights violations, including against children.
The UN Secretary-General noted that throughout the war, UN staff remained in Ukraine and provided vital humanitarian assistance, including near the front line. He also recalled his visits to Ukraine, during which he personally witnessed the devastation caused by the war.
Guterres added that he supports all efforts aimed at achieving a just and inclusive peace, which must be in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
